Death not recorded for deceased sibling of ward member

Post by Jophur »

A ward member (let's call him Aaron) contacted me (membership clerk) and asked me to record his brother's (let's call him Benjamin) death in LCR so that his record transfers to FamilySearch.

Benjamin lived in another state, so I don't have access to update his record. What can I do to help Aaron?

If possible, Aaron should contact the clerk of the ward in which his brother lives and have the passing recorded there.

It has been a while since I entered anything new in FamilySearch, but if I understand correctly, whatever record Aaron has entered for his brother (in private space since the brother was living), Aaron could add the death date/place in his private-space record for his brother. I seem to recall hearing of cases where someone had added a death date to a record for someone who had NOT actually died, and FamilySearch had been asked to fix that and make the non-deceased person's information private again.

I am not sure that the clerk can note a sibling as deceased in LCR. Think that has to come from the sibling's ward.

As a ward membership clerk, I cannot even see the existence of a sibling of a ward member unless said sibling is also my my ward.

You can, but only if the parent or parents are in your ward as well. Look at their membership under family.

I think there's a "Special Request" function in LCR, or you can call support and talk to them.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

The old MLS "Special Request" doesn't exist in LCR but you can submit a support case to the Global Service Department using the Help > Contact Us menu option.
