Linking Membership of Step-Children to Step-Parent

Post by rich74 »

We have a situation where a step-father of a child is not getting emails that come from the stake about youth activities/announcements. This is happening since the step-son is NOT listed as the step-father's child because the son's father is also a member and there is shared custody.

Is there a way to somehow link the step-son to the step-father's membership account so that when official emails are sent out from the stake or ward to all parents of the youth in the stake, the step-father's email auto-populates?

At the ward level our work around is just to have the youth leaders be sure to include the step-father in all emails. At the stake level though, that work around is not so simple.

Not currently. The system uses the child's record and the member parents recorded there in determining to whom messages will be sent.

It's also dependent on them being in the same household.

If the child has been officially adopted, the birth parent can be replaced by the step parent on the child's record. While FamilySearch can handle the complexities of life, the membership records only knows the current legal parents.
