Donated Computers for FSC use

Post by jnpetersen »

We had someone who had an abundance of computers they were going to ewaste, but because we do a Family Discover Day a couple times a year, he donated good amount of older MacBook Air's (they can't be updated anymore) and so I converted all of them to Chrome OS Flex, before I knew the Church was going that route for computers in the FSC that couldn't update to Windows 11.

I'm wondering if since these laptops are mainly to be used for FamilySearch if I'd be able to enroll them so they act just like the computers that were enrolled?

I had an email communication going with support based off a ticket I had regarding the update of FSC, but their response was not helpful, basically just telling me about donated funds, not donated computers.

Section 5 of the FamilySearch Center (FSC) Operations Guide
Do not accept furnishings, computers, or printers.
So the answer is "no".

But, under the Bring Your Own Device program, any computer that connects to the church meetinghouse and has the installed the FamilySearch Center Premium Content browser extension from the Chrome webstore, they have access to the FHC premium content.
