Chromebook - No longer 'general' ids?

Post by KeithCunningham »

Hello,

My stake is upgrading several ward \ stake computers to chromebook. It seems that there are no longer general ids. for example, we currently have "Local Clerk". Any clerk in that ward can sign in - if they have the password. On the Chromebook while you can sign into guest, none of the settings we may have made or needed can be saved. As such - we must have an account for individuals who may be in a position. For example, Brother X, who happens to be in the ward clerk, needs to have an account set up for him. When another brother is called as ward clerk, 2 things are needed. 1) Add an other account to the chromebook - and re-add the printer and display settings, etc. test this too, and 2) remove Brother X's account.

Do I have this right? Who is responsible for doing this work? If say a bishop or existing ward clerk can do this, should they? Do they have training to do this work?

It seems that, while somethings are easier setting up, other things are more complex and challenging.

Thoughts?

From the Wiki: Chromebook FAQ
Who can set up a saved account on the Chromebook?
Anyone with one of the following callings can set up an account on the Chromebook using their personal church account IDs.
  • Ward/Branch Clerks, including Assistant Clerks
  • Stake/District Clerks, including Assistant Clerks
  • Technology Specialists
  • Stake Presidents, Bishops and Branch Presidents

Thanks, but not sure how this applies to what I am seeking. I've previously reviewed this - and while I know who can set things up - have I come to the right conclusions?

I'm not sure as there's any setting up to do. I was under the impression that individuals simply log in with their normal church account they use on church webpages. They create the accounts themselves.

Everyone signs in with their Church account. Those in certain positions will have their accounts saved. All others will be guests.

Those with saved accounts are able to set up printers, etc. Those with Guest accounts are able to use any devices that have been setup by those with saved accounts.

As the stake technology specialist, I usually set up an account and add the printer on a newly installed Chromebook. If the ward clerk is there, I have him do it.

While you are able to remove an account, saved accounts will automatically go away when LCR determines that a person has been released from one of those callings.
