WebOS Gospel Library - spanish

Post by jhsilva007 »

First of all, Thanks everyone for the great work that you do.

Well, I have an iPad 2 and a Touchpad (you know, hence the low price offers) and I'm very happy with it, except it does not have a good pdf reader (for my scriptures) or some app with the scriptures in spanish. Gospel Library for touchpad is really good, but it is only in English.

I been looking at the internals of the app an it seen as using an special XML format, it is not the standard XML (called ldswebml) from the Mobile Content Gospel Library. I don't know if is the same format used in android but definitely is not the same of iOS (it seem as a sql data base). So, Anyone know if there is a script or some way to transform the ldswebml xml to the format compatible with WebOS?, or better, there are plans to make Gospel Library compatible with other languages?

Any comments are welcome. I'm not so good with programming (I am Civil Engineer) but I can tray to do something if necessary.

Thanks in advance.

I have not tried supporting languages other than English yet, but I am willing to try creating a Spanish version. Send me an email (afanofosc at comcast dot net) if you are interested in trying out a custom version that I put together.

I have created a very early and limited version of the Gospel Library application for webos which includes support for 5 languages: English, Spanish, German, French, and Portuguese. The menus are built entirely from a static copy of the current catalog.json files that IOS and Android apps download from the web. I am working toward in-app downloading of the catalog files but I'm not quite there yet.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/53437658/webos_content_por.zip
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/53437658/webos_content_spa.zip

This has no bookmarks or highlighting. None of the official app's XML content. None of the official app's scrolling/text size preferences, etc... Currently, hyperlinks between documents do not work. All of the content is in JSON versions of the zbook content that IOS and Android apps download from the web. Currently the content is not downloaded from within the app, though I am heading in that direction.

If you want just Spanish content you don't need anything other than the IPK above and the _spa.zip file. In that case the first page will still show Deutsch, English, Francaise, and Portugues but document links below those languages will not work.

Install the IPK using Preware or WebOS Quick Install 4.3.1 and extract one or more of the above zips to the drive that mounts on your computer when it is connected in USB Drive mode. This application does not use the same folder name as my unofficial version of the Gospel Library app. If you don't need non-English content then you probably would be better off sticking with the other application.

Just to keep this thread up to date with the TouchPad Apps thread, note that it is no longer necessary to download the separate content files as the GL Catalog application now supports automatically downloading the content as needed when you have an active Internet connection.
