July 19th Worldwide Outage Impacting Windows Computers

From TechWiki
Jump to navigationJump to search

A global outage that is impacting Windows computers is also affecting the Church. Your assistance may be required to recover the computer(s) in your unit to a functional state.

What happened: A software provider that is used by the Church and many other organizations sent an update that is impacting Windows servers and workstations.

Not all Windows computers were affected. An affected computer will display an error screen (blue screen). Only computers that received a specific corrupted file from the update are being impacted, so if the computer(s) in your unit are functional, you may continue to use it and no additional action is required at this time.

Recovery Instructions: Instructions for how to manually recover an affected computer are below. You may also contact your local Meetinghouse Facilities Manager or the Church Global Services Department (GSD) for additional support or if you are unable to complete the manual recovery steps. If you are troubleshooting a family history machine and it asks for a BitLocker code please work with the GSD to get that code. The GSD has additional support times this week to respond to this event. See these times below.

Thank you for your assistance and patience as the Church works to respond to this global outage.
