How to Search for Networks in Church Network Manager

Church Network Manager (CNM) provides multiple ways to find and access the networks you need to manage using the Search feature. Your search experience depends on your role and permissions within the system.

Who Needs to Search?

Facility managers and local managers automatically see a list of buildings they have rights to manage when they log in.

General employees and workforce members typically won't see any buildings initially (or may only see their home ward). These users need to use the search function to find the specific networks they need to work on.

Accessing the Search Function

1.        Log into CNM at cnm.churchofjesuschrist.org

2.        If your main screen is blank or doesn't show the network you need, click Search in the menu

3.        Choose your preferred search method and filters from the available options

Search Methods

1. Firewall Serial Number

  • Best for: Direct network access when you have the physical device information
  • Requirements: Complete, exact serial number
  • Accuracy: Takes you directly to the specific network
  • Use case: Field technicians with access to physical equipment

2. User-Defined Network Name

  • Best for: General searches when you know the building or location name
  • Requirements: Partial matches work (most forgiving search option)
  • Example: Searching "Parkway S Jordan" will find networks with similar names
  • Use case: Most common search method for everyday users

3. Property Number

  • Best for: Administrative searches using official property identifiers
  • Requirements: Exact property number
  • Use case: Administrative staff with access to property databases

4. Unit Name/Number

  • Best for: Searching by official unit designations
  • Requirements: Exact match required
  • Use case: Staff working with official church unit records

5. IP Address

  • Best for: Network troubleshooting and technical investigations
  • Requirements': Complete, exact public IP address
  • Use case: Family history administrators and technical staff
  • Note: Partial IP addresses will not return results

6. Location-Based Search

  • Best for: Finding all networks in a geographic area
  • How it works:

o   Enter a city name (e.g., "Jacksonville, FL")

o   Set a radius in miles (default options available)

o   System calculates distance from the city's center point

NOTE: The search radius is calculated from the geographic center of the city, which may not include all areas within city limits for larger metropolitan areas. Use the "Has CNM Network" filter to show only locations with active CNM networks.[JH1]

Search Tips and Best Practices

Optimize Your Results

  • Use the "Has CNM Network" filter when searching by location to exclude buildings without CNM networks
  • Remember exact requirements - most search fields require precise, complete information except for user-defined network names

Troubleshooting Search Issues

  • No results found: Double-check spelling and ensure you're using the exact format required
  • Too many results: Add the "Has CNM Network" filter or use more specific search terms
  • Can't find expected network: Verify you have the correct permissions to access that network

Remember that search results are based on your assigned permissions. You'll only see networks you're authorized to manage.
