Talk:Closing out the current financial year

Details would be helpful

I know this article is labeled as a stub at this point, and so is acknowledged to be incomplete. But I would really appreciate a clarification of the repeated use of the word "old." Certainly it is clear for each of these elements that become older than the retention period for the country where MLS is installed. In the US, when you roll over into 2009, all 2005 batches are removed -- that's clear. For some of the elements, such as "old users" or "old donors" that is not so clear. Do they have to be have an inactive status, or simply have no transactions for the remaining active years of data once the oldest year is deleted? It's difficult to learn these details simply by testing. -- Aebrown 03:42, 17 April 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for the feedback again Alan! It's exactly the thing that I was looking for with this article, I will make the changes to reflect the date ranges that MLS will keep the information, and will try to remove all of the references to "old" things that I can. I will also include details regarding the "old" participants in the system. Thanks again! --Caleb 15:43, 17 April 2009 (UTC)
Caleb, there's a question in the Record Keeping FAQ document (see that seems to cover the same territory as this page. The question is titled "Closing Out the Current Financial Year." Is this talking about the same thing as this "Year End Steps" page? If so, I suggest you copy the content from the FAQ and rename this page -- it feels more complete to me, but maybe these are two different things. Lindsayre 22:46, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
I totally agree. I think that information from the training article gave this one the "substance" that it was lacking. I have changed the title, and removed the "Stub" reference. Thanks again for all the help! --Caleb 23:54, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
