Why remove nonmember records?

I'm curious why it would be necessary or even helpful to do the step recently added: Remove all non-member, temporary and out-of-unit records created at the local level in MLS. The MLS database for a discontinued ward is about to become inactive. Since those records are all local to MLS and have no effect beyond MLS, as far as I know, this seems like a pointless effort.

However, a step that is not on the list, but will make a difference, is to remove any LUWS non-resident members for anyone from outside the stake that was serving in the discontinued ward and has now been released from that calling. A person can only be a LUWS non-resident member in one stake, so removing them will free them up to be assigned to another stake. -- Aebrown 15:47, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

The only reason that the step for removing the non-member, temporary and out-of-unit records is because it tends to cause problems with the tithing declaration report at the end of the year. There have been cases when the unit has been out of balance, or the administration office shows an error in the report and this has been tracked back to the locally created records in MLS.

I agree with you on the fact that the non-resident members need to be updated in the LUWS because there are several instances where the user cannot be added in the new unit as a non-resident member because the information already exists in another stake. Thanks for the suggestion, we will add it. ;) --Caleb 15:55, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
