The online '''Church Directory of Organizations and Leaders (CDOL)''' provides authorized priesthood leaders and clerks with information on Church units and other organizations within the Church, including contact information for their leaders.

== Capabilities ==
CDOL allows leaders to:
* Look up leaders of other units, including contact information
* See the organizational structure of units. For example, a stake would have links to the wards and branches within the stake and any family history centers in the stake, as well as larger entities that include the stake, such as areas, welfare regions, temple districts, etc.
* Access a Unit Locator to find what ward and stake contains a given street address
* Find how to contact any Church department

== Online CDOL (cdol.lds.org) ==
The current version of CDOL was announced in a letter dated 18 December 2008. This new version uses [[LDS Account]] credentials and is located at https://cdol.lds.org. If you do not have an LDS Account, you will need to [[LDS_Account#Create_an_account|create]] one the first time you visit the website. This can be done by clicking the link "Register for an LDS Account."

The new version adds the following features:
* Option to create a customized directory
* Ability to perform searches for organizations or leaders using multiple search criteria
* Option to save searches
* A listing of the current local time for units
* Ability to see all Standard Positions for units in the user's ward and stake
** ''This is currently available to bishops and branch presidents, stake and district presidencies and stake and district clerks.''

== Access ==
The following positions have been approved for access:
* Bishops
* Branch Presidents
* Stake Presidents
* Stake Presidency Counselors
* [[Stake Clerk|Stake Clerks]]
* [[Executive Secretary|Stake Executive Secretary]] (if added by the stake president)
* [[Assistant stake clerk]]s (if properly specified in MLS using standardized callings)
* District President and Counselors
* District Clerk and Assistant Clerks
* District Executive Secretary

Effective 5 November 2009, access to CDOL has been expanded to include the following standard positions:
*Bishopric First Counselor
*Bishopric Second Counselor
*Ward Executive Secretary
*Ward Clerk
*Branch Presidency First Counselor
*Branch Presidency Second Counselor
*Branch Clerk

To have access, users must be listed in the correct standard position in CDOL and have an LDS Account. People with these [[callings]] will be listed in CDOL if they have been added using the appropriate [[Leader and Unit Change Request]] form or are properly listed in MLS using the standardized callings.

=== Alternative for those without access ===
One way to look up a bishop is to use the [[Meetinghouse Locator]]. Entering a member's new address will display the assigned congregation. Clicking on that congregation's link will display a popup over the map that includes the bishop's last name and a phone number.

For moving membership records, it is helpful to have the ward and stake unit numbers and names for the member's new address<ref>{{LDSTech|title=Alternative for getting unit numbers without access to CDOL|post=18744}}</ref>. The popup from maps.lds.org described above will have a link labeled "Go to Website" (assuming the new stake participates in the [[Local Unit Website]] program, which most do). Following that link will take you to the ward's home page. If you look closely at the URL for that page, it will end in "-nnnnnn,00.html"; the "nnnnnn" is the unit number for the ward. Similarly, if you then follow the "Stake Home" link from the ward's home page, you will be taken to the stake's home page, where you can examine the URL to obtain the stake's unit number.

== Supported Languages ==
The Church Directory of Organizations and Leaders will be translated into a total of 41 languages. Currently about half are translated.

== Historical CDOL versions ==
The CDOL has been published in a variety of formats:
* Originally, the CDOL was published in book form.
* Later it was published on CDs that were sent to local units. The last update on CD was distributed in March 2007.
* The first online version of CDOL was created at http://col.ldschurch.org. This website used NetID login credentials. As of 31 December 2008 this site ceased being promoted; in August 2009 it was discontinued and now simply directs users to register for an [[LDS Account]] and then use the new site at http://cdol.lds.org.
