Study plan notifications don't fire

#1

Post by jubby2000 »

I've created a Study Plan (which I've done in the past) but on the current version 5.3.1 (53135.43), the reminder notification for these don't fire. I'm experience this, as well as my wife who is on the same version. I've attempted to disable the reminder and reenable, I've also attempted to remove it altogether and re-add but still observe the same behavior. Actually I think it fired a reminder on the first day of the study plan, but never again thereafter.

Device info:
Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, both on the latest version of Android 10.

I have an existing study plan, created last January. Notifications were working fine until around June or July. Now they almost never fire. I'll get one maybe once or twice in a month. By the time the problem started, my routine was pretty well established and I was no longer relying on the reminders. It just dawned on my one day that they had stopped. So it's difficult for me to say whether the problem began after an app or OS update. I've always been running the most current of both.

Android Gospel Library 5.3.1 is the beta (which is scheduled to be released this week). @danpass, are you also on the 5.3.1 beta?

I am on 5.3.1 but it is not showing as a beta. I have had two GL downloads in the last week.
Now 5.3.1 (53143.44) is in place.

I am a beta user, so maybe the first feedback is that the icon didn't get changed? [grin]

The icon with the beta banner is used when it's anticipated that there will be a few more builds before the actual release – for example, if there are new features still in progress. The final beta build (or builds) don't have the beta banner on their icon, which allows the final build to be promoted directly from the beta lane to the production lane in Google Play, without needing to run and upload another build of the app.

I am a beta tester, but in my case, this problem has been ongoing with both beta and general releases for several months.

I just installed the latest update and will watch to see if I get a notification tomorrow morning.

It might be worth checking your settings to see if notifications have been turned off.

In Android 10: Settings > Apps & notifications > Notifications. You may need to click on "See all from last 7 days" to see Gospel Library.

I do know that on my phone, if I consistently dismiss something, the phone will ask me if I want to ignore it.

Ah, makes sense.

Which explains the update that came down this morning. All is good.

With version 5.3.1 (53148.46) installed yesterday, I still didn't get a notification this morning.

I checked Android Apps & Notifications settings for the app. All notifications are enabled, including Study Plans.

If the time comes that I really want this feature to work for me, I'll try removing and reinstalling the app.

Aside from the OP, are study notifications working for the other people posting to this topic?
