LCR not ready for the changes to YM/YW?

#1

Post by dandaman74 »

Our bishopric has moved quickly to implement the changes to the youth programs announced in general conference, and followed up with in a letter from the First Presidency on October 5th re: Strengthening Aaronic Priesthood Quorums and Young Women Classes.

Today they released the existing YM Presidency and Advisers and sustained new Advisers and Specialists. Unfortunately LCR does not yet have a calling for "specialists". I assume that the current calling of "assistant adviser" will go away and be replaced by that, so for the short term I've created custom callings.

Is there any word on when LCR will be updated to match the language we have been asked to make? Or is it possible that I'm just not seeing the specialist calling because it's hiding somewhere that I didn't expect?

When logging into LCR, there is a brief notice that describes what will happen to the YW’s organisations. Maybe the YM’s organisation will change at the same time. However, I expect that the changes will happen nearer to the New Year. Maybe the bishopric have been a little over enthusiastic in implementing the changes before the the process has been fully implemented in LCR?

November 4. There is also a banner reminder when you first open LCR.

Young Women will change on November 4 for stakes that are not in the beta. We have a very small beta going on right now. Young Men changes will happen closer to the beginning of 2020.

Your solution of adding custom callings will take care of it for now, but I would make sure you capture a copy of that data outside of LCR.

Hey, jonesrk, if I forget to mention it to you, we should look at whether we can reasonably preserve Specialist positions (translations? - ugh!) entered after general conference.

Thanks for the feedback scgallafent. I'd seen the banner about YW changes on November 4th but it only indicates the merging of YW classes into one on November 4th. I will check the system closer to the end of the year to see if the new specialist callings are ready.

I wouldn't say the bishopric was overenthusiastic, Biggles. The First Presidency letter said that "these changes could begin as soon as branches, wards, districts, and stakes are ready but should be in place by January 1, 2020." I had hoped that LCR would be ready to accommodate the changes as soon as we were ready as well.

The YW specialist callings will be there once the changes happen on November 4th.

For LCR to accommodate the YW changes some of the old things have to go away so we didn't do it immediately after conference in an attempt to give people a little time to get any information they needed before we removed it in the change.

Does anyone see how to create new YW classes so they are not all just grouped together in one big 12-18 class?

One way is to go to Organizations | Young Women. On that page there is an Organize Young Women Classes button.
The other way is if you get to the class itself there is an Edit button next to the Print button.

According to President Nelson's statement, the change was to happen immediately as possible and no later than Jan 1, so I assumed that LCR was in place to record the changes.
