Stakes and wards are not allowed to have their own websites. At one point the church provided a ward and stake home page on lds.org that could be activated by the stake. But those have been discontinued.rhodamabundu wrote:I am looking for more information on ward/stake websites . Who set up a ward/stake website is it the same same as MLS. However, there are several tools that are part of lds.org that are ward and stake specific and which can be very useful. These include the Directory, Calendar, Lesson Schedules and Newsletter. These can be accessed by anyone in any ward by using the Tools menu in the upper right hand portion of the screen on lds.org. Although these are available to every ward, generally a ward administrator has to do a little configuration to make the tool useful. In the Calendar someone needs to create the calendars the ward and stake will use. In the Lesson Schedule someone has to configure the classes and special events. These can generally be done by a bishopric member, clerk or by someone who has been given the calling of Ward Website Administrator.
To learn more about those tools use the Tools menu to access each tool and then look for the Help button.

The full policy is found in Handbook 2 section 21.2.22. You'd need to review this with your local priesthood leaders (at the ward and stake level) to determine what they feel is allowed by policy.rhodamabundu wrote:thank you for the information what about facebook page are they allowed to open one
My personal interpretation is that an official ward or state facebook page is prohibited without special permission from the area presidency. However, a member may use a facebook page to facilitate their calling if it follows the guidelines outlined under "Members’ Use of the Internet in Church Callings". But ultimately your local leaders are responsible for interpreting the policy for their units.

However, one might be careful before declaring a facebook page as "personal". If the name of the page is the ward, or it's a ward committee that makes decisions about it, then I think it ceases to be "personal".eblood66 wrote:However, a member may use a facebook page to facilitate their calling if it follows the guidelines outlined under "Members’ Use of the Internet in Church Callings". Re: stake/ward websites
Does anyone know how to create a church website for the youth of our stake? We want to be able to notify them in real time of upcoming events. Email is out of date for them, text might be the best option, but I'd rather have a page or site that they can access and their parents can access as well.

Why not use the church calendar? It automatically syncs to LDS Tools. It's available on as website. It can also sync to a personal calendar. (I sync it to my smartphone's calendar.) It's also limited to members of the stake - which means it's NOT open to everyone in the world - including predators.rubyhales wrote:Does anyone know how to create a church website for the youth of our stake? Furthermore, if you look at the guidelines found at internet.lds.org, you'll see a calendar website is an NOT an appropriate use. You might also notice the "good" example of the Laurel class president who uses Twitter "She takes care to share only general information in public tweets and saves the details of event times and locations for direct messages."

For anyone finding this thread in a search, be aware that some of the information above from 2014 is out of date – wards are now allowed to have a presence on social media (such as Facebook). See the internet.lds.org link above for policies surrounding it.
