selecting different months option

When I'm in the month view, the display at the top left shows the month and year I'm in, but when I click its dropdown button I'm just shown a view of the same month with days. I'm already in the month view, so I would like to see instead an option to select any month of the year. The current month-with-days option makes sense when I'm in week or agenda view, but having that same option apply to month view seems redundant.
