YSA ward personal phone# vs household phone#
I’m a father of two ysa age children. One at BYU student ward one at our local YSA ward. I was recently called as ward clerk for the local YSA ward. As a father, I have received numerous calls and text from ward members thinking they are calling my children. Now that I’m the clerk, the RS president asked me to update a few member phone numbers. The numbers she asked me to update were already listed as that member’s personal phone number. It seems like the household number is the default and the personal number is not listed on organizational lists. Is there a way to make the personal number the number first listed on membership and ministering lists on a ward (global) level?

Since Ministering by the EQ is to Households, I think that's always going to be the Household number. You may want to consider having your children in a separate household. Since your records should be in the home ward, you're an out-of-unit member anyway and wouldn't be assigned Ministers by the YSA ward.jonstonely wrote:Is there a way to make the personal number the number first listed on membership and ministering lists on a ward (global) level?

When a young single adult is in a separate household from his family in membership records, his household contact info can be changed to mirror his individual contact info.

The case for my own children isn’t really the true problem here. It just highlights a bigger problem associated with YSA and the fact that nearly all YSA have their own cell # and when they are away at school the personal number should become the default primary contact. I don’t necessarily want to go changing or deleting the household numbers because that can be a good emergency # while they are away from home. In the most recent case with the RS president asking me to update phone numbers that were already associated with their record, we are two months into the semester before this got sorted. Not very efficient if I need to update and look at and adjust all the new individual records every six months

Re: YSA ward personal phone# vs household phone#
I'm still confused on the use case.
A YSA that's no longer living at home needs to have their records where they are living/attending.
A YSA that's at home but attending a YSA ward would either have their records moved to that ward, or at minimum, an out-of-unit record. However, I don't think out-of-unit members can participate in Ministering.
The only time this would seem to be an issue is in a home ward when the YSA is a "child" in the household. There's nothing written in stone that an adult must be listed as a child if they live at the same address as the parents. They can be spun off into their own household. That's up to the bishop. The desire to give them their own ministers from the EQ would drive that decision.
Bottom line, how does this affect a YSA ward? Assuming the membership record is in the ward, there's no reason the number couldn't be the same as the personal number. Perhaps an out-of-unit member doesn't allow editing of contact information, but that raises a bigger question of if the records should be transferred. Either way, only one ward misters to them. And it's the one holding the actual record.
I'm missing something about this puzzle.

Just speculation here, but are the YSA records retaining their "home" household number when the records move into the YSA ward?
