Third question - a good dynamic mic for musical instruments?

#1

Post by dbaresrc »

Hello. I have several questions related to building audio. Our stake center is about 10 years old. I'm not sure if that matters in terms of technology used but I share in case it does. I have several questions that I'll post here.

Third question.

Depending on the answers to the first two questions, we may purchase a microphone specifically for musical instruments for the next conference. As I understand it, it needs to be a "dynamic" type of microphone. Anyone know of a good, moderate to high gain mic that would work to overcome any potential system "weighting" and give us a good, clear sound? Without breaking the bank?? :) It would be a limited use device, not one used for baby blessings etc. so it doesn't need to be built like a tank to withstand usual Church wear and tear. Haha

Thanks

What do you mean by "weighting"? I believe all the chapels are equipped with automatic mixers which turn on channels based on the sound present. That may fight you if you're trying to use multiple inputs at the same time. You may be better off using a external mixer and feeding the results into the chapel sound system via a single mic input.
