Webcast with Vidiu to include Zoom feed???

Post by dsbahr »

I noticed the other day that there was some sort of upgrade in the works that would add the ability to include a Zoom feed along with the standard portal access.

Does anyone have any more information on this? How do we access this feature, etc.?

I know there's changes to allow the church webcast to work with thousands of streams. As such, I doubt if there's any plan to also feed zoom.

I could see using zoom to front-end a webcast so a service so all the leaders and speakers could work from home. I haven't heard of anything on that front. A few of us are playing with ideas to simplify the creation of the RTMP stream needed by the church webcast system so it's simpler and cheaper than using the VidiU.

@Russellhltn - what you say makes sense, however I am referring to a banner notification that appeared on the https://webcast.churchofjesuschrist.org/#/eventManager site which specifically announced that USEast2 and a couple other locations were being upgraded to enable 'ZOOM' as an option for addition to the the video stream. The pop-up banner stated the updates would be done by July 18th (or something close to that).
That date is past, but when I login to schedule a new webcast using USEast2 I do not see any options to automatically add Zoom to the typically scheduled webcast.
I was hoping someone would have information on how to access this feature.
Would you, or anyone, know who I can contact about this?
THANKS!

I don't know anything about that. Perhaps there's been a change of plans.

The Teradek VidiU can't do Zoom, since it's a 2-way protocol. All the formats in its GUI drop-down list are strictly for 1-way only broadcasts.

If all goes as planned, either next Monday or the following a new option will available in the scheduling tool labeled "high encode bitrate". This feature will be available to all but will show as a beta or test feature. Enabling this is meant to allow the ability for event managers to stream from Zoom to the Church's webcast solution using Zoom's RTMP capabilities. There won't be a lot of info on this initially, most of the testing was going to be taking place internally. I thought I'd give an update though since this was mentioned in a portal notice. I'm not on the forum all the time, so please direct message me with questions. If you end up testing, I'd appreciate any feedback on successes, failures, or lessons learned.

That's great news!

I was under the impression that Zoom's RTMP feature required a Pro, Business, Education, or Enterprise Zoom license for the host. AFAIK, most of us are using the free version. Is the church planning on extending their Enterprise license to individuals responsible for hosting the steam?

Either way, this appears to be using Zoom for content creation, not distribution, which is what I think OP (dsbahr) was looking for.

You can now test Zoom integration with the Church's webcast services. To do this you will need a paid Zoom account, so you can use the RTMP option Zoom offers, and will need to enable the high bandwidth encode toggle for your event. I will talk to the individual over Zoom for the Church to see if they are looking at extending licensing out to local leaders.

Bart,

You referenced some instructions you were working on regarding how to use Zoom, and the Church webcast solution together. Did you ever finish those instructions? If so, would you please attach them to this thread?
