Church Zoom Account - My Experience Summary

#1

Post by gudmundsonsc »

- I am the stake clerk, we do not have a stake technology specialist (STS).
- I did NOT need to add myself as the STS in LCR.
- I went to meet.churchofjesuschrist.org and enrolled each ward.

- I used task-specific addresses in gmail (see below) so that I could control the email used for all the zoom accounts.
- I saved the zoom passwords in a password management system.
- I verified zoom sign in using the task-specific addresses and passwords.
- I gave the new zoom username and password to each ward.

"task-specific" addresses in gmail:
don’t create multiple accounts or aliases for specific tasks, just add a plus sign (+) and any word before the @ sign in your current address. Messages will still reach you, and you’ll have an infinite amount of emails for different purposes.
from some_stake@gmail.com you would put some_stake+some_ward@gmail.com which is still sent to some_stake@gmail.com.

Perhaps an adjustment was made for stakes that don't have a STS.

I can personally confirm that using task-specific emails DOES work for creating multiple accounts that land in the same email box.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

I have started managing the zoom accounts for our Stake (I'm the current STS), and give a thumbs up for the task-specific feature in gmail to setup and manage the accounts. This has been helpful to keep all of the individual ward notifications for the entire stake to one email - the Stake Presidency, Stake clerks and myself have the email credentials.

I recently tried using the webinar feature for our ward Sunday meeting - all of the speakers and other participants were designated "panel members", and we had a translator for Mandarin speaking ward members. Connecting to the stream was similar to joining a meeting, but the participants had fewer options and didn't show up in the meeting window. The host had control over the chat features and the window format that was presented to the members. One of the Bishopric members managed our hymns by screen sharing and enabling his computer audio. We plan on running our next Stake Conference using this setup.
