Granting leadership access for custom callings
We are a YSA ward. We have a couple custom callings that we would like to grant some capabilities to in order to perform their calling. For example, our Welcoming Committee Co-Chair. We have lots of new members coming into the ward continuously, and the responsibility of this calling is to reach out to the new members and make them feel welcome and included in the ward (harder than it might sound). We would like to give him access to the new member list in LCR. I could send it to him each week, but I would prefer to make it a an easier process as he will need this list every week...indefinitely. Is it possible to grant some LCR access to custom callings?

Re: Granting leadership access for custom callings
Custom callings get no access in LCR beyond what a regular member has with no calling at all. There are other callings that could be issued, but some would likely grant more access than desired. Short of finding an appropriate standard calling, your only option is for someone with access to that list to provide it each month or week.

Depending on what access you want them to have, and what responsibilities you might assign them, you could look into calling them as ward assistant clerks. They could help with tasks like making sure phone numbers and addresses are up to date, etc. Only members with a (Melchizedek?) priesthood office can be called as a clerk – but if they're male and female co-chairs, one of them could be called as a clerk.

Assistant clerks have to be approved by the stake.sbradshaw wrote:Only members with a (Melchizedek?) priesthood office can be called as a clerk – but if they're male and female co-chairs, one of them could be called as a clerk.
But I think you'll find that as an assistant clerk, they'll have far more rights than you intend to give them.
Also, the number of assistant clerks has been capped. Some wards were really getting out of hand.

Re: Granting leadership access for custom callings
Due to a change in LCR made earlier this year, and based on the recent experience of one of our wards, a ward or stake may now have only one each of the following:
Assistant Clerk
Assistant Clerk -- Finance
Assistant Clerk -- Membership
Assistant Clerk
Assistant Clerk -- Finance
Assistant Clerk -- Membership

I have a new Relief Society presidency councillor. She is recorded in the LCR. She cannot access LCR. "Access denied" i checked the access table and RS is access approved and other members of the presidency can access. Why cant she. It's been 2 months of searching. any help would be appreciated!

First, make sure she is recorded as a standard position. Custom positions will not work.gelford@titanthermal.ca wrote:I have a new Relief Society presidency councillor. She is recorded in the LCR. Second, compare the MRN of the member in that calling against the MRN on the Church Account she's using. There's any number of ways that can go wrong. She might be using her husband's account, or someone with a confusingly similar name as been put in that calling. But at the end of the day, it' the MRN that grants access.
Edit: Allow 24 hours for changes in callings to work though the system.

Re: Granting leadership access for custom callings
Another issue Forum members have found is that sometimes when a member has multiple callings, it seems the "default calling" when they sign in is not the one that grants them LCR access. So if the new counselor has another calling, perhaps when she logs on she needs to switch to that calling and then access LCR (there's some kind of dropdown menu pick, I've never done it but I've seen others say it worked for their situation).I have a new Relief Society presidency councillor. Re: Granting leadership access for custom callings
Good point - but with a minor correction. I think that's only an issue if they have two callings that have LCR access. The user then become puzzled why they don't have access to certain features. That's when the dropdown comes into play. The dropdown only appears if they have multiple LCR access callings. I think if it as choosing which hat you're wearing.BrianEdwards wrote:Another issue Forum members have found is that sometimes when a member has multiple callings, it seems the "default calling" when they sign in is not the one that grants them LCR access.
In this case, with the "Access denied" response, I'm thinking it's something else.
