Email and Text Messages to Quorum Members

Post by rebern »

Sending an email to all quorum members isn't working from my iPad or IPhone. It appears to be working but no one receives an email.
The option to text should not be offered. Sending text messages to a large group is not workable. Most services limit it to between 10 - 20 recipients. It would be great if the church had the messages go out 10 at a time like third-party apps do, or allow the user to select the recipients and then the user could pick 10, send, pick 10, send and etc.

I don't know about iOS Member Tools but Android text messages to a group requires the user to select the members on the list to send the message to. Limiting the group size is up to the user. Multiple messages to small groups can be sent.

I too find this aspect a little inconvenient. Right now if I want to send the same text to my ministering district for example but not as a group text as individual texts I have to rewrite or write and copy and paste to each person. I would really like to have options like the email app has of sending to the group but not creating a group or showing who else the text is being sent to.

I agree. Texting to a group means anyone that replies, confirms, or just gives a thumbs up, pings the entire group. The larger the group, the worse it gets. Before Covid, I would receive a monthly text regarding our next Empty Nesters FHE. After each one my phone would go nuts with people texting replies.

With email (or email to text), you can hide all the recipients so replies get routed back only to the sender.
So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Recently I finished writing a web application for sending text messages to quorums and organizations.
I'm currently using it with my ward. There is a dependency on Twilio service to message groups/organizations.
If you would like to try it send me a message and I can create credentials and ward name along with a url.
Again you do need to have a twilio account setup I think they have $20 free credit to do some testing.

My user case may be unique.

We use it send zoom links for sacrament meeting and also for sunday school/relief society and elders quorum classes.

I went this route because most people in my ward have abilities to receive texts easily but as much as reading emails or having a facebook account.

One of the benefits is you have one virtual phone number incoming texts go to that you can setup with a auto-bot reply. etc..
