Church ZOOM Video Quality [FIXED]

Post by TJHill »

All,
I noticed that my video quality was lower once we changed to the Church sponsored account. Please note by Default "Group HD video" is turned off
If you wish to enable this/

1. Ensure that your location has enough bandwidth.
2. log into your account on ZOOM.us website.
3. Select Settings on Left pane
4. Select In Meeting (Advanced) on the left
5. Scroll down to "Group HD video" and Toggle to on
6. Choose Standard HD (720P) or Full HD (1080P) Depending on your internet connection.

I thought user bandwidth was also a consideration? So most participants might see the Group HD video just fine, but for somebody with a lousy internet connection, wouldn't they have a different experience?

I'd love to be able to use better video quality, but want to make sure I understand what to consider.

Good question. I'd hope that Zoom would have some ability to downgrade the users as needed.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

From what I understand it appears zoom will downsample for those users.

I've been testing Zoom the past couple of weeks in preparation to move back to it as requested from the meetinghouse broadcast system. When we first used Zoom last year, being restricted to 360p video was yucky, and the 540p stream from the meetinghouse broadcast system, though a lot worse than what I was generating, was a significant upgrade over Zoom. Now, w/ the church's enterprise account, 720p (and beyond) is an option, but I find that Zoom prioritizes latency over quality, both wasting bandwidth (poor quality for relatively high bitrate) and is VERY picky when it comes to measuring Internet speeds. There's no "in between" option for streams -- it seems to send a viewer either a 720p or a 360p feed, with no resolution or quality options in-between, and a lot of our viewers that are on fairly high-latency connections w/ < 10Mbps, it decides that they're only worthy of 360p, in spite of the fact that they can easily view nice 720p or even 1080p streams from other sources. Thus, we now have the "haves" and "have nots" -- those on Comcast get a video upgrade, while others get a downgrade.
