Automated Class Assignment

Post by Noahloggins »

Hello All,

I was called as the Clerk to my local unit a few years ago, but today (06/27/21) I had one of the teachers of primary approach me about having one of the young children on the attendance, however, when I look at his individual record, by default he isn't assigned a class at all. Does anyone know a possible reason for this, if so do you also have any idea how to fix this issue?

Thanks in advance,

You should be able to reset his class assignment. Someone else will have to explain the steps.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

You should have a choice in the individual record to assign to the default Primary class under the Calling/Classes tab. Or a reset option if a previous non-default assignment had been made on their record. If a default option isn't showing it could be the classes have been edited and they would need to be reset by going to LCR under the Organizations tab then choose Primary. Choose the Edit button next to the Print button and it will then go to a screen with "Reset Classes to Default" option, Once the resets have been made you should be able to get the child assigned to the correct default class.
It most likely occurred with a move to a non-default class in the past (maybe 2 years ago they were bumped up a class) then it isn't real obvious until they should be beyond the previous move and they are not moving automatically. It gets complicated in trying to uncombine and recombine classes from year to year with a small Primary. It is this type of situation that gets one to audit the rolls and make sure you have all the children showing up in the correct classes without * by the names indicating non-default assignments.

I just had this problem with a couple of children in our ward. I was able to manually add these children to their classes by going to Organizations > Primary > {appropriate class} and selecting "+ Add Member" and search for the child's record. I do not know if this will hold into the next year and move the children to the next class automatically, but in their individual record, under class assignments, there is a notation that the class is the default class if you try to edit the assignment from there.
