Photos in the Ward History
I'm starting as a Ward Historian, and I'm curious about making the annual history with images. We've got 'permission-to-use-photographs' which is good for all photos. but I was wondering if I have a few photos that I haven't received the written permission, do I have to through them out? Some photos were used in a Relief Society newsletter. I was going to use them in the Ward History. I am trying to find out who took them. But if I can't, do I have to throw them out?

If you do not have the written permission of the photograph creator and owner then it cannot be used in the history. The permission is needed to avoid potential copyrights violations. See the Terms, Conditions, and Owner’s Agreement in the Permission to Use Photographs form.

Do you need written permission if children are in the photos?

The first two posts of this topic thread were made during the time of the old paper unit history program. Posts 3 & 4 quoted above have been made after the new online Unit History app was released. The old history forms and documents have been superseded. Please review the Local Unit History Content Submission Agreement (Updated 2023-09-25). Especially note paragraph 5. Publicity. In part it states: "You may not submit Content pertaining to other living individuals (e.g., whose name, image, story, or likeness appears in the Content) unless such individuals have given you their consent to submit it to this Site, or if an individual is a minor, the minor’s parent or legal guardian has granted such consent." How the consent is granted is not stated. But when I asked support at the Global Services Department (GSD) they said it did not need to be in writing.
