KML Map Files - Who to Contact?

Post by mlh78 »

I assume that even though KML files are no longer available on CDOL, that the church uses these or similar file types to run the mapping services. Does anyone have any idea who to contact about looking into getting files for a few stakes? I am an area seventy executive secretary. I have PDF files, but they are not adequate for what I am doing.

I'd start with the Global Service Desk.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

It may not be available to everyone, but when I look at CDOL and search for my stake or Ward, I can see a boundary maps in the 'General Information' tab. I just checked and I can see stakes and wards that I'm not part of.

Regardless if you dial the main line of the church and ask for the mapping department they've always been great when I've called.

I see them as well, but they all seem to be PDF files. Are you seeing KML?

This post suggests that the creation of KMZ files has been discontinued. It may be that it's the creation of those files for general consumption that was discontinued, but they are still created for internal consumption.

It's interesting that a general assumption (or maybe just my own general assumption!) is that the Area leaders would have access to these KMZ files for their work, especially if they're asked to do something where KMZ data would be beneficial. Hopefully whatever you find out, you can post here in the Forum. I don't believe we've had any Forum posts from somebody recently who was successful in getting access to the Church's KMZ files, so knowing what's possible would be great.

ahh... sorry, I missed that. But I have had some sent to me from headquarters in the past, shouldn't be that hard to get. Also, most municipalities also have maps of their locality that I would get and just draw the border on.
