I had saved the link to the classic maps version of my son's mission. It says that page no longer works. After trying MANY things, it seems like going through the missionary portal is the only way I can find an updated map. It's too bad. I think it's great to be able to look at the different mission maps.

Yeah, the old "browse" option on the classic maps site was interesting. Even if you go to CDOL to download the map of a unit, such as a mission, there's no browse feature like the classic maps had.

For those who like browsing maps, here's one option that's still available. It's nowhere near as detailed as the classic maps site was, but it still shows interesting data:

Note that there are some interactive features. You can click on the legend at the lower left to hide/show certain information.

Why is it a concern? It was a nice to look at, but what are you not able to do now that you could before?
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

@awisewoman,
Your post was merged into another topic thread discussing the same thing.

The ability to see official mission boundary maps are just not available to the general membership. Please see post #12 and post #15 for some alternative options.

For me, the mission boundary for the mission I live in has changed several times since we moved to Las Vegas 30 years ago, and there are times when I’d like to see what it is. When we first moved here, Nevada was one mission (Nevada Las Vegas), overlapping into every state that borders ours. A couple of years later, the state was divided into two missions. A year ago, after 29 years in the same stake, we moved to a stake next to ours, and I didn’t even know we were in a different mission because a new mission was created. I have no idea how many missions are in Nevada now. Apparently we’re now in the Nevada Henderson Mission, even though we still live in Las Vegas. It would also be nice to know what our stake boundary is and what stakes are next to ours, other than the one we just moved from.
Since we haven’t been in our new stake for very long, people don’t know me well, but in our former stake, especially in our ward, many people knew that I was “up” on such things and that I’m tech-savvy, and they would ask me where the stake border with another stake was or where they could find a map of the stake or mission.
I’m sure that Church leaders don’t think it’s important for the general membership to know these things, and I know that in Salt Lake City the ward, stake, and mission boundaries probably haven’t changed for over a hundred years, but outside the Wasatch Front where these things do change, members of the Church are curious. Is it vital to our salvation? Of course not, but it’s still kind of nice to know some things about our local area of the Church.

I think many Forum members share your interest in having access to interactive maps of stakes, missions, and temple districts (ranging from practical reasons, to simply just enjoying knowing more about how things are organized). However, the Church has not shared any specific reasons for removing the interactive maps, and also restricting the pdf versions to certain leadership access. Since that change was made, some have posited that it was due to privacy issues, others supposed that it just was easier for the Church to not bother with maintaining that functionality (and thus be able to use their limited resources elsewhere). So while we can speculate here in the Forum, our guesses are simply that, and may or not hit near the mark.

I'd also suspect that in many places in Utah, the local boundaries change much more frequently than most anywhere else in the Church. I have friends who lived in a previously-rural area and have not moved in decades, but have been divided and transferred at times almost yearly due to local growth as subdivisions sprout around them, always with a healthy percentage of church members moving into those new neighborhoods.

On a personal note, my current calling crosses stake boundaries, and being able to have access to these maps would definitely help at times. One of the reasons I asked for (and obtained) out-of-stake membership records was to be able to see the boundaries of units in those other stakes, since that info is not available to non-CDOL access. So I definitely understand your interest, since I have a practical need beyond just a curiosity.
