Access to previous submitted hard copy records

Post by rnpotter »

A member of my ward knows that his grandmother and grand aunt provided hard copies of family history materials to the church in the late 1950s. He is wondering were he can access that information. He is hoping that they provided more information on his half great uncles.
I understand that I will need more specific names and dates. I'm just looking for tips on the process, contact information, links or do I need to send him to SLC for a physical search?

I'd start by going to FamilySearch and clicking Search > Genealogies.

If that doesn't turn up anything, try some of the other categories.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

You could try contacting the FamilySearch Library in Salt Lake City: https://www.familysearch.org/en/library/
There may be FamilySearch missionaries at the library who could help do some digging without him needing to travel to Salt Lake himself.

If the records were given to the Church History Library, you could also try searching the Church History Library catalog:
