Digital Recomends

Post by micahkim »

The church in our area recently gave us the capability to switch our recommends from printed to mobile. My question is as a clerk am I able to switch it for people without going through a member of the bishopric?
I can access it through the LCR and all it takes on my end as a click of the button. I can’t find anything in the handbook about it and was curious and have had people ask me.

Are you in the "Beta" program for digital recommends? I know we've had Forum posts regarding different units worldwide that have been participating in the trial program, and I'm wondering if you have been newly-included in an expanded Beta footprint. If so, it would seem probable that whoever authorized your unit's inclusion, should be aware of somebody internal to the program who might have the answer.

If you haven't been informed of any "Beta" status, then perhaps the Church is beginning the long-awaited process of a generalized rollout. I'm not aware of any Forum members who have posted that they are involved in the Beta program, so I'm not sure if anyone will have any helpful suggestions. With something this brand-new, it's possible that even if the system allows it to happen, perhaps it's not the desired method for the paper-to-digital transition to occur.

Let's see if anyone with knowledge responds. I know there's a lot of members waiting for this to occur in their home units!

I know all who are in the Newport Beach Temple district are in the beta program and I am in San Diego. With our temple being down for sometime we now go to Newport. Im not sure if we are included as part of the beta or its just part of the slow roll out. I had one of our high council members ask me today about the process and I gave him all the info I know but wasn't clear If I can make the switch for him. I had it done for myself by one of the bishopric members a few weeks ago and I enjoy the convenience of having in my tools app. Thanks for your input

Does anyone know why as a Bishop when I go to "Switch active recommend format from printed to mobile" in LCR the select button is greyed out for some members?

Do those members have an approved photo in Member Tools? That's one of the requirements for using a digital recommend. That's the only reason that comes to mind.
Have you searched the Help Center? Try doing a Google search and adding "site:churchofjesuschrist.org/help" to the search criteria.

So we can better help you, please edit your Profile to include your general location.

Thanks for the reply.

The picture is not an issue. I figured out that the Temple Recommends for the ones that are greyed out were issued by my counselor that I replaced a couple weeks ago. Since he is no longer in the Bishopric, we will have to issue new recommends for those members that want to switch to mobile recommends that he interviewed originally.

Switching formats can only be done by the issuing unit, and only if the issuing leader can still issue recommends
