"Gateway to Repeater" message

Post by russellhltn »

If you've turned on alerting in Church Network Manager (CNM), (or if you're looking over the alert logs) you may get messages "Gateway to repeater" which doesn't offer any real clues about the problem.

It happens if the AP has lost data connection with the switch. It's no longer acting like an AP, but as a WiFi repeater. While it works, it's less than optimal as the AP will have to spend some of it's air time passing the traffic over the air instead of on a (hopefully) 1GB cable.

The Meraki APs should be directly connected to a Meraki switch. The fact it has power indicates it's connected, but one or more wire pairs are broken or degraded. You can run a cable test on the switch to see how far away the break is from the switch.
