Board keeps saying unavailable.

Post by garystroble »

Is it just me or is there a problem with the board?

It's a problem for me also. Every time I go back to the main forum page, I get a notice that it is unavailable. Sometimes if I go to unread posts and back to forum a time or two, it is fixed. Sometimes not... Have seen this behavior on 3 different computers and on my phone. I have not tried clearing cache and cookies yet (have not been affected by the cookie buildup problem in the past).

The forum is being hit hard by high traffic, much like a DOS attack, but from a lot of bots. This has been an on and off thing since the latter part of May and is being worked by ICS. The forum may be slow to respond at times when the bot traffic is high. Users may see a forum out of service message at times but access and usability may function normally or may be slow.

I find I can usually ignore the message and press on.

A bit hard to ignore when multiple page refreshes result in the same unavailable message. But I'm not complaining - I can be patient and if the page doesn't load, I can always come back later. I appreciate knowing that there are other things going on and "it's not just me..."

Yeah, I've found a few times recently when my "incredibly well-thought-out post" (beauty is in the eye of the beholder!) has gotten lost, and my browser cache hasn't retained it. So I've gone back to the practice of copying my post text before hitting Preview or Submit, just in case. With something like this I had assumed it must be general and not just me, so it's helpful to have that confirmation that it's something outside user control.

I also am certain I have no idea how challenging it must be to navigate these type of server hits (whether organized attacks or just a part of our modern tech world). Fingers-crossed it gets better soon.
