Printing individual membership records
As the Stake Technology Specialist, I was asked by a Ward Membership Clerk why he can no-longer print individual membership records straight to the printer. He showed me that he first has to save it as a .PDF file and THEN he can print the PDF. He said that it didn't use to be that way. Confused, I've asked around and all have verified that the PDF has to be created first. To me, that is a big privacy issue since the PDF file is now sitting in the downloads folder for anyone to find and view. Is there a way around this - and can someone tell my why it is only with the individual membership records?

Re: Printing individual membership records
I just checked to see if anything has changed. I see nothing different now than what has been the process for several years.
The steps to printing are:
1. Open the record.
2. Click the print icon.
3. Select the appropriate option, such as "Individual Ordinance Summary".
4. Click the Print button.
5. The page(s) render in PDF format within the web browser, but there is an options menu on the top right side that includes the Print icon. Click that Print icon.
6. Click the Print icon. The computer system print spooler page will pop-up. Make sure the desired printer/print driver is selected and all other print options are set as desired.
7. Click the Print button on the print spooler page pop-up.
There are two places within the steps described above that have options that result in the pages being sent to file instead of to a printer. In step 5 there is an option to download the PDF to the right of the print icon. In step 7, if a PDF print driver is selected instead of an physical printer driver the file will printed to PDF.
In the situation where the computer print spooler is set up to default to the last used printer driver and someone has used a PDF print driver in the last print job, then the next print job will go to the PDF print driver and a PDF file will be created. Ask the clerk to check what happened and what options were used in step 5 and step 6.

Re: Printing individual membership records
I think it's worth noting General Handbook 33:6 "Under no circumstances may membership records be given or shown to anyone other than the bishop or a clerk."
On the other hand, the IOS may be shared with the member. By in large, it contains most of the same information.

Thanks jdlessley. I'm going to sit down with him again and verify those steps.
russellhtln, I'll remind him of the handbook instructions. He's probably familiar, but reminders don't hurt.
