Feature request: download all annotations, links, notes, etc.

Post by christopherbross »

I'd really appreciate a particular feature connected with the Gospel Library. I know this has been discussed before but I want to add my current perspective.

The last few years have seen me become increasingly aware of my own mortality. Health challenges that could potentially lead to my death are inescapable.

The Gospel Library is my primary repository for my scripture study. Were I to unexpectedly die today, my study would be available for a time to my children but could also be erased without action on their part. Were my children uninterested in preserving these notes, they would be permanently lost - notably to my further posterity who do not yet have the option to preserve anything (they have not yet been born).

At a minimum, I'd like to be able to download a json or a spreadsheet that lists the following for each annotation: the reference where it is located (e.g. "Moses 1:38-39"), the text of the highlight (e.g. "immortality and eternal life of"), the color and type of the highlight (e.g. "yellow underline"), the text of the annotation (e.g. "It's both our immortality and our eternal life that He's focused on."), associated tags (e.g. "Hope") and any links (e.g. "[linked to] Doctrine and Covenants 76:3"). Any other connected elements should be listed as well. With this, I could create my own thing. It would be sufficient.

Ideally, however, I'd love a feature that takes this a step further for me. It seems easy enough, once a json or whatever is created, to automatically lay out a pdf document. It could look like this: a single column of scriptures down the middle of a page with the highlighting in the text. A line extends from the highlight to a box in the margin within which associated links, tags, and text appear.

Annotations outside of the scriptures could be handled in a similar way. These would not be expected to appear in the pdf but would appear in the json or spreadsheet.

Such a feature would be invaluable to me. I know there's a feature to download some information available right now but the information is incomplete.

The Tech Forum is not the place to make such requests. The forum is user-to-user discussion and collaborative self help. There is no connection to any application support or development decision makers.

Such requests should be made from within the app using the Send Feedback feature found in the app Help menu.

You could include the link to your post in the feedback to give those who direct the developer's priorities insight into your well thought out request.
