Members not receiving messages from LCR

Post by jo.leach »

I doubt this is a new topic but I can't see how to search all topics.
Some members are not getting email messages sent from Leader and Clerk Resources. I know it's been an issue with some providers like AOL and Yahoo. But it is also affecting some Gmail users now. My current problem concerns a few Gmail users. The emails are not found in their Spam folder. Is there a Gmail setting that will resolve this issue?

Make sure those who are not getting messages have checked the Local Leader Email option in the Subscriptions section of their Church Account profile.

Thank you. But I can't find the Subscriptions section. I'll keep looking.

(Doing this on Android)
Log in to the church website
Tap your picture or icon in the upper right corner and tap "account settings"
Tap the 3-lines in the upper left corner and tap "subscriptions"
Turn on the subscriptions you want.

After having checked that they have the correct subscriptions to receive local leader email, the most likely reason is that Amazon SES (the system that the Church uses for sending emails from LCR) has added their email address to a suppression list for some reason. The interface for removing addresses from Amazon SES has not been exposed anywhere in the Church Account settings, so your only option will be to have the member contact Global Services Department and request that their address be removed from the list.

Who is sending the messages from LCR? Do they get the email with a subject beginning with "Message confirmation: "? Does the confirmation message include a statement like:
The recipients below were rejected by the server. Please verify their email addresses.
If so, this is a good indication that their email address has been added to the above mentioned suppression list. For more details about the Amazon SES technology, see:

Here's what the subscription looks like in the Church account on the website:

The sad truth of the matter is that some email providers, and Gmail in particular has made it communication via email much less reliable unless you meet their idea of what proper communication is. This is largely because Gmail "customers" don't really care about how Gmail handles their email, so Gmail is able to get away with being a stumbling block for legitimate communication because their "customers" don't speak up. So Gmail rejects a message for some reason and then Amazon SES decides that this means that the email address should be blocked. And now the member who is using Gmail is unable to receive emails from LCR. Said member now has a few options;
  1. They can contact Gmail and ask them why Gmail rejected the email and furthermore demand that Gmail stop interfering with their communications.
  2. They can switch email providers and update their Church account to use a different email address.
  3. Or they can contact GSD and ask them to have their address removed from the suppression list.
If they opt for number 1, they'll still have to do number 3. Option 3 could take a long time to get resolved. I no longer recommend using Gmail and instead suggest people find email providers that are more "customer" oriented.
