New clerk computer failing windows 11 autopilot setup

Post by studerje »

Got a brand new clerk computer.
Pulled it out of the box, plugged in Monitor, keyboard, mouse, ethernet.
Powered on. Selected English.
Prompted for network. Selected the ethernet adapter
Setup starts and fails in the Device Preparation step.
Error: Securing your hardware 0x800705b4
Photo attached.

Working through this right now. Will update when I know more.

Note: each reboot just brought me back to the same screen in the image in the original post.

Here’s what worked.
-on another computer, download the Windows Media creation tool for Windows 11 from Microsoft and use it to build a USB drive for reinstalling the OS
-Download latest bios/firmware update for the machine to the same USB drive
-while the computer is on that error screen in the image, press Shift + F10 ( this opens a command prompt window
-type explorer.exe & press enter key
-Browse to the flash drive and kick off the firmware update. Let it finish, it will reboot the machine and bring you back to the same error in the screenshot
-while on the error screen from the screenshot, press Shift + F10 to open command prompt
-type tpm.msc - this will open the TPM MMC window
-on the right side of the window, click reset TPM
-reboot the machine (keeping the USB inserted)
-while it’s booting, press the F12 key repeatedly, this should bring you to a boot device selection
-Select USB device
-Follow the prompts to reinstall Windows on the largest partition

Once this completed, the machine came up and auto provisioned its self as expected.

The instructions for this one aren't very clear... Annoyingly. We don't have to sit through these automated provisioning steps. We're instructed to skip them http://tech.churchofjesuschrist.org/wik ... k_Computer (option 5) and continue with setup.

Tried that originally, this particular machine seemed to have a TPM issue and got stuck.
