Clerks office printer 802.1x network is not properly configured

Post by RyanGard1977 »

I will be going down later this week to look into this, but we have a clerk reporting that their printer won't connect over the network: "Printer is connected over Ethernet to the network but is no longer detectable by other computers, including the clerks office computer. We can still print by connecting directly to the printer’s USB port though. An error appeared saying that 802.1x network is not properly configured. I tried turning off and on the 802.1x protocol and resetting the printer and it didn’t work."

My thoughts are to first check the configuration on the PC and printer to make sure they are discoverable. Then reboot everything.

Any other suggestions?

I assuming you're the stake technology specialist. You should assign the printer a static IP address so it doesn't keep moving around. You can do that in CNM.

While the device should be able to communicate locally even without being added to "NoSplash" policy, it's possible you may have to add it to allow things to find each other. Again, in CNM.

Ward technology specialists lack the permissions to carry this out.

Hi Russ- I am not the STS, but rather a sub-contractor for JLL Facilities. JLL handles the Facilities Maintenance for meetinghouses in a number of states. I just happen to be a member and have some experience with computer and networking stuff but am not afraid to come onto here to ask for help. Many times, the STS are unable to figure these things out and that is when the FM group gets me involved to try to help. The info you provided is MOST helpful and I am going to pass it onto the STS to see if they can figure that out. If not, I'll be making a trip to that building. Thank you again!
