Can I be sealed to 2 sets of parents at the same time?

Post by vaimagalo2456 »

I was born in the covenant and then adopted by my birth mom’s sister. Since they were sisters, I was raised by both sides (my birth and adopted parents). I love both sides deeply but I would like to be sealed to my adopted parents as well. I’ve asked my bishop but he says he’s not sure and would ask our stake president but it’s been months and I’ve reminded him more than a handful of times. In the handbook, 38.4.2.3, it says “Living children who are born in the covenant or have been sealed to parents cannot be sealed to any other parents WITHOUT First Presidency approval”. I’ve shared this with my bishop but he said I’ve misunderstood what it says. What do yall think?

I see you also posted in this thread Can I be sealed to two families?. Summing up my thoughts about that thread, the only way the Church has provided for this to occur is via our Bishop who then talks with the Stake President as needed, and there is no alternative way for a member to bypass this line of authority to get a "second opinion".

To avoid rehashing the discussion in that thread, what additional questions do you have beyond what was shared there?
