Computer-generated narrators of Scriptures

Post by vernonkirk »

There are many many errors using computer-generated voices for the Scriptures! Often the accents and phrasing are wrong; cannot pronounce names like "NEPHI" and "MORONI". This is off-putting and I don't see why we can't get a live recording from a real person or persons (to provide male/female, etc.)

I volunteer!!

For your awareness, the Tech Forum is designed for user-to-user discussion and self-help, and is not connected to any official Church support resources. The way to get in contact with those Church resources is by using the Feedback tool, which is available inside Church apps, as well as via a link at the bottom of most Church webpages. I assume you're referring to languages that the Church still hasn't provided their own translations, there are other reasons why somebody trying to listen to for example the Book of Mormon in Spanish, might unexpectedly get a computer-generated voice.

From what I've seen shared here in the Forum, it seems the Church indeed is putting resources into providing human-translations of not only the scriptures, but lots of other official resources like General Conference talks. And I'm sure the Church is as interested as the rest of us in being able to provide translations that allow the spirit to be present, without jarring the listener with unexpected wording or pronunciations. Unfortunately the public doesn't have access to any internal Church timelines for providing those language translations.
