Which Ward \ Unit sent a membership record into my ward

Post by KeithCunningham »

Hello,

A general Clerk question: I'm probably just missing it, but is it possible to tell which ward or other church unit sent a membership record into my ward. In other words, I want to know if there is a way to tell where a person is moving in from.

Is that possible? How?

I'm sure you can see what the prior unit was, but I'm not sure if you can see who initiated the transfer.

When looking at the membership record in LCR, on the Individual tap, in the third column, it will show the date the record was moved in and the prior unit(s). If the record was not in a unit but at the headquarters in "address unknown" status, that will be shown also. The prior unit will be a hyperlink. Click that and that unit's bishop and other information will be displayed along with a button to see the more detailed data in CDOL.

I'm still hoping for the day when an option (or requirement) becomes available as part of a records move, for whoever is moving the record to include basic information about the records push or pull (obviously nothing confidential).

When it's a "push", the "pushing unit" can always send an email to the "receiving unit", and likewise the new unit can always reach back out to the previous unit as described to ask for pertinent info. But "pulls" can be even more frustrating for the previous unit, since when a record is pulled from your unit and you don't know why, and you don't know where it went, then you can't share any info with the new unit unless they actively reach back out to you.

Have you looked at the move in and move out report in LCR and in the member app? The previous ward on move-ins and the current ward on move-outs are shown there.

If that's there, then either
a) it's been added since I was last in a leadership position in 2024, or
b) I just missed it (and it would have made life much easier if I had checked that report!)

Either (a) or (b) is equally likely ;)

I think from/to has been there for a long time. However, sometimes the "from" is "address unknown".

The subject of the thread is who triggered the move. It sounds like that's still an unknown.
