I am a Stake Auditor and for the first time I have encountered a copy of a check with only one signature. However, the LUFAS system answered Question #10 as Yes, there were two authorized independent approvals for this expenditure. I understand that when an electronic payment occurs, the system has seen two electronic approvals, which as an auditor I do not see. However, since I've not see an automatic yes on question 10 where the written check has only one signature, it generated a couple of questions. Unfortunately, this specific audit is scheduled February 15, 2026, this coming Sunday and no local person could answer this question for me.
1)If the system answered Question 10 Yes and there is only one signature on the check, an auditor is to assume the electronic system, somewhere, saw a second independent approval?
2) A check with only one signature is fine, if the system electronically answered yes?
3) Should an auditor ask to see the second approval during the ward audit?
I guess I was simply uncomfortable because in this situation an auditor cannot personally answer the question that there are two authorized independent approvals for this expenditure.
I appreciate the assistance.

Re: Question 10 in Audit with Automatic Yes
If the question is automatically answered that means LUFAS has found the two approvals in the Church financial systems. You don't need to check any further.
Over the last several years the Auditing Department has made this check available for several audit questions. This makes the audit easier and less prone to error.

Re: Question 10 in Audit with Automatic Yes
Although not an audit exception, I would still point this out to the unit as a training issue. Even if there are already two approvals in the system, they will want to make sure they have two signatures on all checks. The bank may reject a check without two signatures which would require voiding the original check and issuing a new one.
