Church Firewalls Block RMTP connections to YouTube

Interesting, ran into this Friday. When I disabled the port and re-enabled, it seemed to work.

However, at this point, I'm thinking they might have connected to YouTube via another route (hotspot?), but when they went back to the wired jack, the system was using the cached DNS lookup so it was able to run.

This DNS issue impacted our three (3) buildings today. Prevented 5 of our 8 wards from broadcasting sacrament meeting. So glad to have found this forum discussion with the solution of manually changing the DNS to Google (8.8.8.8). That was the work-around I needed. The wards that start at noon were able to successfully broadcast their sacrament meetings.

Agreed, thank you for this active forum. Our stake also uses Youtube live and changing the DNS to 8.8.8.8 allowed the stream to start. Does anyone know if this workaround will continue to work or will the firewall be updated to allow Youtube again?

Has anyone called Church HQ Support to ask why they are blocking YouTube suddenly?

I called and opened a support ticket. The individual I spoke to said network engineers were aware and were investigating / working toward resolution. Nothing other than this.

How/where do I change the DNS? I did not think I could do that. And if it involves going around the firewall, that will not be an option for me. Thanks.

I'm glad this is being worked on. We're experiencing difficulty reaching YouTube at our building in Herriman, Utah. Manually overriding DNS settings let's us access YouTube. We strongly prefer using YouTube over zoom for sacrament and stake conference broadcasts.

This is usually done in the network settings on your device (laptop, tablet, etc) and change the DNS servers from automatic/DHCP to manual and add 8.8.8.8 as a DNS server.

Frankly I'm a little surprised that setting another DNS works. I thought the church blocked them.

This is usually done in the network settings on your device (laptop, tablet, etc) and change the DNS servers from automatic/DHCP to manual and add 8.8.8.8 as a DNS server.

Confirmed: we were successful by eventually figuring out how to manually specify DNS servers - on both the Teradek and Mevo cams - instead of relying on DNS settings coming from DHCP. Was a long day. Technology gremlins need to rest on the Sabbath.

How did you set the dns on the mevo? I haven’t been able to find any way to do it.
