programs for mac

Hello all,
I was trying to get opinions on family history programs for a mac. I was using RootsMagic, only because my class at BYU-I required it, but my computer crashed and I get to start over again from a GEDCOM my father has. I'm not partial to RootsMagic necessarily. I am wondering if anyone has used the MacFamilyTree 8 and could give an opinion between the two. My father uses Ancestral Quest, but it's not winning me over so far.

If you're starting over from your father's GEDCOM, I'd put more weight on how well each program imports and preserves your sources, notes, relationships, and media than on the interface.

MacFamilyTree is very Mac-friendly and has excellent visualizations, while RootsMagic is more focused on the research/database side. Both still support GEDCOM, so you're not locked into either one.

Since you're on a Mac, I'd import a copy of your father's GEDCOM into both and spend a little time entering sources and editing people. That will tell you much more than screenshots or feature lists. Also keep the original GEDCOM untouched as a backup before experime
