Young Single Adult Advisors

Post by jaymeek »

We are not unable to enter a member into the MLS's standard calling for a Young Single Adult (YSA) Advisor unless they are under 31 years old. MLS gives both the stake and the wards an error message stating that the person is not a valid candidate for the calling. YSA Advisors can be of any age and are often older and married. Has anyone experienced this issue?

If your in a YSA ward this would be due to all ward officers and teachers (except the Bishopric) are to be called from the membership of the ward and anyone over the age of 30 are not considered YSA.

I did not know MLS had been flagged to ensure this happens but I'm glade it is.

Reading Handbook 2 16.3.3 it appears to me that the advisers would have to be married.

However, that section appears under "Young Single Adults in Conventional Stakes and Wards". There is no mention of YSA Advisers under "Young Single Adult Wards". So it's possible it does not apply to YSA wards/stakes.

I belong to a ward where we have a group of young single adults. Recently, the bishopric called a young single adult leader and a couple to serve as young single adult advisers. Where can i find information about their roles and responsibilities for their callings?

Section 14 of the Handbook is all about Single Members: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/stu ... s?lang=eng It appears section 14.1.2.3 is the most directly focused on the leaders you are asking about, but other parts of the section may also contain relevant information.

If I was in that situation, I'd also make sure I understand the needs the bishopric (and ward council) identified for the YSA's in the ward, and what is the core priority for them? With that in mind, I've found that reading the Handbook allows the Spirit to better identify ways to apply the policy and guidance to the specific circumstances of your YSA's.
