Clearing the 'recent' list + highlight word or phrase

How do I reduce the number of items in my 'Recent' iist (viewed through the menu) in Gospel library android?

How do I highlight only a word or phrase so that the highlight remains? It would be good to be able to highlight only snippets (using the handles) for later study purposes. I know how to do it for a whole verse.
