military scripture sets

why dont you get a old testament with the military set?

I'm guessing it's related to the size -- adding the Old Testament would nearly double the bulk of the scriptures (1284 pages in NT/BoM/D&C/PGP, and 1184 in just the OT).

Many years ago, there were plenty of small sized Old Testaments available to military members, at most posts, and I think the Church may have based their decision partly on that. I do not know if these smaller Bibles are generally available any longer.

Actually, it was just the New Testament (at least in my experience in the military). I still have the one I picked up at Fort Dix to add to my LDS-published military set.

Adding the Old Testament would increase the size of the set considerably and that could be a problem for those who have tight restrictions on personal items.
