Hymns for Choir & Storage

Post by David.K.Griffin »

Firstly, Great job with the thumbnail views for all the materials.

One thing I'm hoping for is the Sheet Music from the freely available PDF's on the Church website

Currently, there is only words, none of the written sheet music, which is fine unless you are in Choir, or suddenly want to sing the Alto, Tenor, or Bass Parts...

There's a great app called "LDS Hymns with Notes", by LDS DUDES that is pretty awesome, that does it very well, but It's still an external program and its really something that I think should be inside the Gospel Library.

it would be even better if we could download the actual individual MP3's one by one on demand, or as a whole. just so we can listen to something uplifting while we reach for our Gospel Library

The Vocal & Instrumental versions are both freely available on the LDS website, and it'd be great if we could download either version to our devices

Also, I think the Gospel Library Settings should have a "Browse to..." Default Storage Location

Thanks

Maybe there could be 2 Hymns Sections:

1. The Current One, as is

2. an "HD" version, with the full sheet music, for larger devices

There's an official LDS Music app being developed for Android, to match the one that's available on iOS. In Gospel Library, songbooks are essentially treated as manuals, and it's a lot of extra effort to do anything different from the standard for other manuals. The LDS Music app will have more options for browsing, viewing, and listening. It will serve as both a music player and a songbook, which Gospel Library isn't designed to do.

There used to be an app where you could listen to the hymns play with the parts (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) played separately.
This was so useful in learning the parts for harmony. Is this still available somewhere?

That was the Flash-based music player.

Online in the Music Library both the Hymns of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Hymns—For Home and Church have the same, or similar, capability as the old Flash music player. In both apps, select the desired hymn and then select the "Interactive Sheet Music" button. Then on the play menu bar select the "music mixer" icon button just to the right of the play button to adjust the parts to play or not to play. By default all parts are selected to play. Note, this capability is not yet available in the mobile apps.
