Membership Audit Help

Post by Naschuster »

I am a new Ward Clerk and I'm doing my first membership audit. I have several exceptions for errors that are very old (ordinances that occurred in the 1950's and 60's). The descriptions of the exceptions are too vague to be helpful - things like "ordination date out of order with respect to another existing office". I've looked through the members' records and can't find anything that these may be referring to. I've spoken to the members and they don't have a clue what I'm talking about.

Is there a phone number of someone at church headquarters that I can contact to get some further insight into these exceptions?

You can find it here: Support Contact Information for U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. Note that there's no support on Sunday. You'll have to call during the week.

With of of those including the one you mentioned you'll need to scour the membership records. Last year an issue arose because the ordinance dates had been improperly recorded for a member of our stake presidency who resides in my ward. In that case you just need to see if they kept any family/personal records with relation to ordinations.

Hi, I'm receiving this exact issue in the membership audit now! Did you find a way to correct this and by chance remember how? There's

There's not been any ordinations recorded on this particular member since the 1980s...

Thanks,

It has been such a long time, I don't remember how I resolved the issue. I'm pretty sure I was able to talk to someone in Salt Lake who could help. Try the link in the first reply.

I don't know exactly what LCR is looking at for it, but looking at the member on your audit my guess is it is because his High Priest ordination only has a month and year while his Bishop ordination includes a day and the same month and year as his High Priest ordination. If you can confirm that he was ordained a High Priest the same day he was ordained a bishop then you could have the stake update the High Priest ordination date and see if that fixes it.

Is that something the ward can fix, or is that a stake fix?

The stake adds/edits Melchizedek priesthood ordinations

"ordination date out of order with respect to another existing office"

I have a member that was ordained an Elder, went on a Mission and was sealed to his Spouse, however, it seems that the ordination date to Elder (Melchizedek priesthood) must have been deleted or was not recorded properly. Our Stake president had to reordain him as an elder again, but now the issue is that his Sealing date is before his new Melchizedek ordination date, so I get that same issue because you cannot get sealed before being Endowed.

You will have to look at all of the ordinances and their dates to ensure that they are not out of order!

I'd suggest looking at 38.2.6.3. The First Presidency needs to ratify it, and when that's done, it's flagged so it no longer comes up on an audit.
