Gospel library is horrible at switching languages

Post by wesleykeetch »

It will switch to Spanish and then when a back button is clicked it will go back to the previous language. The switching function needs to be improved.

Isn't the back button on Android always supposed to go back to where you were previously?

Are there examples of other third-party apps that switch languages in the app? I'm curious how they behave.

I would expect that switching of language is not cached as "browsing event" or whatever one calls them. I would think it is configuration / setting event such as changing font size etc.

Yes. The same is true for Windows apps, as well. It's the browser-like paradigm, really. Navigating to the same page on a different language is still a different place "on the web" (in the library for Gospel Library), and thus is part of the forward/backward navigation history. The behavior makes perfect sense to me,

The problem is that my home page and any page that is not a content page reverts to German. The topics and links are all in German. My phone language is in English and the content pages come up in English. But the main page headings, labels, etc., are in German. The link to the home page is Startseite and General Conference is Generalkonferenz, for example. But the talks are in English. There is no app setting that I can find to select the language (Sprache) for the entire app. Language selection is only available at the content pages. Everything was in English before this update. But this has happened before. I don't know where it gets the idea that I want any German on the site--especially not as the default for headings and link labels.

Update: I found that, in my system settings where English is the default language, German was a second language in the list but not selected. Inexplicably, the app decided to use the language that wasn't selected as the system default. I uninstalled the application, removed the German language from the system, reinstalled the app, and signed in. The problem is now gone. But, having the app randomly select a language that isn't the default and not having a global app setting for the user to decide the app language for links , labels, and headings, is a defect--or at least a suboptimal design choice.
