What happens when mail is sent to the meetinghouse?

Postby jtyewhit » Sun Mar 17, 2019 9:47 am

If snail mail is addressed to the church meetinghouse, where does it go?

I checked with the agent bishop and the other bishop in the building and it doesn't end up with them.

I'm wondering if it is a 'return to sender' situation.

A member had a third party send mail via the US Postal service addressed to the meetinghouse and is wondering where it might be.

It might get returned, or it might get stuffed into the door as the mail person's "best effort" at delivery. What happens from there is anyone's guess.

Officially, it should be returned to sender as undeliverable.

We had a situation for awhile where a bishop lived very near the meetinghouse and was served by the same postal carrier. They worked out an unofficial deal where the mail would wind up at the bishop's house, rather than be returned. But you won't find that in the Postal Service Domestic Mail Manual. [smile]
