MiBox S Initial Release

Post by russellhltn »

I followed the directions send and reset/reloaded our box. I think the registration is a bit different, but not a problem. I notice the new app allows you to enter a event code. But the app still shows scheduled events one the home screen which is what I loved so much about the beta. However, it seems to be less noticeable because some the settings and other options.

Yes, and you probably noticed it now allows you to associate a name with each MiBox, so if you're running more than one, you can tell them apart in the dashboard. (I'm sure I wasn't the only one to suggest that in the feedback.) What's cool is you can set the name from either the device menu or the webcast dashboard. (The latter is much easier!)

I think this can serve two important purposes. One is having a multi-stake event where you can enter an event code from another stake and receive their webcast without having to associate your device with their stake. Another is someone at home who's authorized to receive a webcast can be given the event code. They may be running the app on their own device or one loaned from the stake, either way, it would only work for them as a one-time event.

Mine shows, "Find Event", "Settings", and "About"; but any scheduled event shows up above all that with a much larger icon. BTW, it only takes between 1 and 15 seconds for a scheduled event to show up in the MiBox menu. I don't know if it polls the church servers or if the information is pushed out. However it works, it's pretty responsive.

BTW, since we're out of beta, I went ahead and started a new topic.

I have been watching the Beta conversation closely, and am excited about this.

Who do i contact to get my hands on a few of these for our upcoming stake conference?

This post describes the equipment which can be purchased outside of the church channels. But nothing has been announced as to the official way to get them. I don't see it in Church store or in Staple's regular online website.

I have just been in contact with our tech people here in Europe, about hardware distribution etc. Their response is that they haven’t been given any details on when, or how, or who will be providing the hardware, or if individual units might be responsible for acquiring the hardware themselves.

I’ve installed the webcast app on an earlier version of the MiBox and also a NVIDIA Shield TV Pro. Now all I need is to find the time to set up a test webcast to see how they perform!

I've received word back that when the product officially launches, it will be available in the eMarket and church online store.

I wonder if they can get bulk pricing direct from Xiaomi; although they are fairly inexpensive already.

Hard telling. What I want to know is if it comes with a case. The cardboard box I had is already shot.
