Reported Post

Post by lajackson »

A Gospel Living post I made in one of my circles was reported. I know who reported it, but how do I find out why, and what do I do about it? There is nothing wrong with the post as far as I can see.

Procedure? Directions? Help desk?

That's interesting. I can't even find a way to report a circle post let alone how to handle one once it is reported. The only option I have as an administrator is to remove a post. How were you notified your post was reported?

in the 3 dot menu of the post

If you are an administrator of the circle or the poster the options are Details and Remove

If you are NOT an administrator of the circle, others posts have Details and Remove

In the post, there's a three dot menu in the lower right corner. Open that and you see the option to report (if it's someone else's post).

I'm not sure as anyone would have any options except to remove the offending post. I'm thinking that any issues would work worked out via connections outside of the app.

I have done that in an attempt to see where to report another person's post and all I get are three options; Share outside Gospel Living, Details, and Remove. I am a using member of the circle and not just an administrator. It could be that the only people who have posted are administrators themselves. Perhaps that could be the reason I don't see another option?

For everyone else's post in EQ I see "Details and Report". That includes the Bishop and EQ president. For my posts, it's "Detals and Remove". I do not have any callings in EQ or bishopric.

This is under Android 1.1.7.

I received an email from the Church. The post itself also had an exclamation point above it, and a banner that the post had been reported showed up after a while.

But since you are an administrator, that is probably why you only have those options. It appears I also am an administrator.

As I mentioned, I received an email from the Church saying that
A recent post in the Elders Quorum on the Gospel Living mobile app has been reported.

Reported by: [last name, first name of the reporter]
Posted by: [my last name, first name]

Please login to the Gospel Living mobile app and view this Circle feed to review the post and decide if it aligns with the Code of Conduct.

The content will remain available for members of this circle to view until it is removed by an administrator.
The email went on to provide instructions on how to download the Gospel Living mobile app.

The three-button menu of the reported post included options to Dismiss and Remove. It turns out that Remove gets rid of the post (and probably the report) and DIsmiss just gets rid of the report. That is not exactly intuitive.

The reporter is a friend who is not very technically savvy but is not afraid to experiment. It turned out he was bored and had been playing around with the app. He said he was trying to "Like" the post. He wound up accidentally pressing the Report button (which I do not have as an admin) and then was not able to undo the report. That, it seems, is what triggered the email and started this whole process.

We had a good visit. I selected the DIsmiss button and all the bells, whistles, banners, and exclamation points went away. The post stayed.

I do not know if the elders quorum president and his counselors also got the email. If they did (and I assume so), the counselor who does not have a smart phone is probably still trying to figure out if there is anything he can do about accessing the app. The others are probably trying to figure out why they cannot find the reported post.

I provide this as a public service since we all know that there are not (and probably never will be) any instructions accompanying this nice little app. In the process of figuring out this report, I also noticed there is now an Adults circle.

I appreciate this discussion. Our smaller unit was finally ready to get Circles going right when the shutdown occurred, so we still don't have any real usage yet. But it's quite helpful to share this, to broaden understanding of how things work, and hopefully be prepared ourselves.
