Children under 13 paying donations

Post by ChaceHugo »

I have 4 children under the age of 13 years old and I am trying to teach them about paying tithing. I have bank accounts for my children but I am unable to do online donations since they are younger than 13. My oldest was baptized last year so really trying to reinforce the principal of tithing which we have been teaching her.

In the United States, there are legal issues related to a child under 13 and the Internet, especially with regard to financial transactions. In fact, since your children are under 18, it is likely that you are a cosigner on their bank accounts.

I do not know for certain, but I believe these legal issues are a primary reason the Church does not allow online donations from anyone under age 13.

While you teach your children about tithing and they need to contribute the old-fashioned way, you may also wish to send Feedback to the Church that you would very much like the capability for your younger children to contribute online.

I'm having the same issue, cash is expensive and inconvenient, and to add to the complication, youth are allowed to go to the Temple from the age of 12....but the prerequisite for temple attendance is to be a full tithe payer... Of which they cannot be because they are no allowed to pay their tithes online.

I don't understand the logic behind it. They can't pay online because it's illegal, but paying offline is legal.... It's just inconvenient and another obstacle in the "sacrifice" of their hard earned money. We need to make it an easier habit to get into from the youngest possible age... Even if there is a parental consent required on signing them up the first time when loading their banking details

Laws don't have to make sense.
